Eligibility & Contraindications

Whilst Electrolysis can treat all skin types and hair colours, electrolysis may not be for everyone. It's important to discuss your medical history, your skin care routine and any temporary (or local) conditions to make sure you are eligible and fit for treatment. All contraindications must be checked to ensure you may receive treatment, and if you are unsure we always consults medical professionals for advice and approval. If you have a contraindication, this means you will not be able to proceed with Electrolysis, and need to consult with your Electrolygist for further discussion.

Electrolysis Precaution

Type 2 diabetes: Acceptable with medical note
Botox or cosmetic injectables: Wait 15 days
Hearing aid: Must be turned off
Allergies: Must be disclosed

General Contraindications

Epilepsy and seizures
Pregnancy 1st Trimester (treatment deferred)
Cancer, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, or remission (must be 1 year treatment‑free and provide a medical note)
Hepatitis, AIDS, HIV
Haemophilia
Multiple sclerosis (medical note required; thermolysis only)
Type 1 diabetes
Cochlear implant
Pacemaker (medical note required)
Accutane | Isotretinoin treatment (defer 6 months after final dose)
Puberty (wait 1 year after onset of menstruation; parental consent required if under 18)

Local Contraindications

Breasts and abdomen during pregnancy
Phlebitis / thrombophlebitis
Local infection or skin disease (includes mycosis, warts, cysts, dermatitis)
Hairy nevi (moles require a medical note)
Trunk varicose veins
Eyelashes (treatment is not permitted)
Inside ears
Inside nostrils
Erythema
Inflammation or sunburn
Oral or genital herpes with antivirals (e.g. Valtrex, Zantrex)
Local pain or neuralgia

General Contraindications

Paralysis
Pregnancy
Multiple sclerosis
Pacemaker
Epilepsy
Cancer

Local Contraindications

Metal inclusions: coils, piercings, etc
Orthodontic treatment: Braces, lingual retainers, dental implants, bridges, partials
Thyroid gland disorder
Saline implants (breast implants
Contact lenses: must be removed
Local paralysis
